The Leonids, dust from comet 55P/Tempel–Tuttle, peak around 23:45 UT on 17 November 2026 according to the International Meteor Organization, with about 15 meteors an hour under a perfect sky and no outburst expected. The first-quarter Moon sets before midnight (around 23:30 in Vienna), leaving the pre-dawn hours dark, when Leo is high: its radiant is about 40° up by 03:00. Leonids hit the atmosphere at 71 km/s and often leave glowing trains. Bonus: Mars and Jupiter sit together in the same constellation.
