DLR’s MAPHEUS-17 research rocket could fly on 1 October

The German Aerospace Center’s suborbital MAPHEUS-17 mission is set to launch as early as 1 October. Rockets like this give experiments a few minutes of weightlessness for a fraction of the cost of an orbital flight. Our take: much of the science that later flies to the space station is first tried on flights like this one.
