Open Cosmos presented plans in Athens on 8 October to mass-produce telecom satellites in Greece at a rate of up to one a day. Its Greek subsidiary, Open Cosmos Aegean, is moving into 4,000 m² premises with an initial 600 m² clean room and aims to grow from nearly 40 staff to more than 300 by 2030. The satellites are for ConnectedCosmos, a low-orbit network announced on 5 October with a core of 192 satellites, more than 96 of them in orbit by the end of 2028. The company is also building seven satellites for Greece’s national microsatellite programme: Hyperion GR-1 launched in July and the other six are ready or in final assembly. Our take: with ICEYE also planning a Greek plant, Greece is turning from satellite buyer into satellite maker, now the hard part is hitting those rates.
