ESA estimates that its own crew transport would take about ten years and €10 billion, with The Exploration Company’s Nyx and PLD Space’s LINCE as candidate capsules. Director General Josef Aschbacher argued that for about five billion more Europe could do the job itself and keep the money at home. ESA is also funding a Nyx cargo demonstration to the ISS with €310 million. Our take: the bill is now on the table, and member states will have to say yes or no.
