Ambassador Mario Cospito, ASI’s extraordinary commissioner, will chair the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space for 2026–2027, a post first proposed for ASI president Teodoro Valente before his death. Italy helped found COPUOS in 1959; it now has 110 member states. Our take: this is the room where the traffic rules for crowded orbits get written – a useful seat to hold.
