With the ISS heading for retirement, ESA has two industrial teams, led by Airbus Defence and Space and by OHB, running nine-month feasibility studies (started in June) for a European-led outpost in low Earth orbit. Europe already built the Columbus lab and Orion’s service module. Our take: the real question after the ISS is whether Europe wants to be a tenant on someone else’s station or a landlord on its own.
